The Importance of Salah (Prayer)

What is Prayer (Salah)?

Prayer or Salah is the second of the five pillars of Islam and the most important form of worship. It is a mandatory prayer that must be performed five times daily.

In Arabic, the word “Salah” means prayer, worship, and supplication. It is the means to communicate directly with Allah.

The Position of Prayer in Islam

Its Prime Position Among the Five Pillars

The five pillars of Islam:

  1. Shahada - Declaration of faith
  2. Salah - Prayer ⭐
  3. Zakat - Charity
  4. Sawm - Fasting during Ramadan
  5. Hajj - Pilgrimage to Kaaba

Prayer is the most important obligation to fulfill immediately after the declaration of faith.

Prayer in the Quran

Allah mentions prayer in many places in the Holy Quran:

“Establish prayer and give Zakat.”

  • Surah Al-Baqarah (2:43)

“Establish prayer at the prescribed times, for prayer is indeed obligatory for believers at fixed times.”

  • Surah An-Nisa (4:103)

Why is Prayer Important?

The five daily prayers help organize our day:

  • Fajr (Dawn) - Start the day with blessings
  • Dhuhr (Noon) - Rest in the middle of work
